SUMMARY

Under general supervision, oversees delivery and receipt of food, supplies and materials; inventories and maintains warehouse for the District, including food and supplies for the Child Nutrition Programs.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

  • Receives and processes food supplies and materials for refrigerated warehouse serving the Culinary and Wellness Services central kitchen facility.
  • Operates powered fork lift, and moves material according to work order and material requisition form; assists with loading and unloading of delivery trucks.
  • Conducts monthly inventory of all food and supplies; reviews paperwork and monitors inventory levels.
  • Utilizes inventory control procedures to manage warehouse supplies, and store goods in the designated areas of the freezer, coolers and warehouse.
  • Provides setup and cleanup for distribution, lines, and cook areas.
  • Schedules and confirms deliveries; communicates with buyer on order accuracy.
  • Works independently, and assures that all safety rules, regulations and policies are observed; performs duties within scope of authority and training, and in compliance with MPS policies.
  • Receives frozen, refrigerated and dry goods according to food safety standards and established receiving guidelines; provides accurate receiving data to the Inventory Coordinator.
  • Inspects and verifies accuracy and condition of all materials received against appropriate paperwork; verifies accuracy of materials pulled from inventory. 
  • Strategically stages products to assure efficient delivery to production and distribution work areas.
  • Maintains tidiness and cleanliness in the warehouse; stacks and stores materials in designated areas.
  • Monitors work site to assure that safety rules and regulations are adhered to, and that the work zone and all equipment are in safe operating condition.
  • Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed; cleans up spills and unsafe conditions in a timely manner and according to procedures.
  • Recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries.
  • Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, clients, visitors, and MPS staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment 
  • Enthusiastically promotes the Superintendent’s goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures.
  • Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records and MPS information.
  • Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basis
  • At times may be required to work outside normal business hours and work extended hours to accomplish requirements of the position.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines

High School Diploma or GED equivalent; AND three (3) year of warehouse or shipping and receiving experience, preferably in a commercial food service setting; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.

 

Medical Examination: Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician.

 

Knowledge of:
  • Basic shipping and receiving practices and procedures.
  • Warehouse operations and procedures.
  • Safety and sanitation practices and methods for food preparation, distribution and storage.
  • FIFO procedures for food storage and selection.
  • Principles of record keeping and records management.
  • Personal sanitation and hygiene regulations.
  • Safety rules and regulations.
  • Occupational hazards and safety precautions.

 

Skill in:

  • Operating and maintaining a forklift in a safe and effective manner.
  • Operating a warehouse in a safe manner, in compliance with state and local regulations.
  • Performing basic mathematical computations.
  • Following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
  • Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with co-workers and clients.
  • Following and maintaining safety standards.

 

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota State Driver’s License and Fork Lift Operator License are required. 

Must acquire and maintain in good standing a Serve Safe certification within sixty (60) days of date of hire.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed indoors and outdoors at MPS facilities; requires constant physical efforts; may be exposed to safety hazards and dangerous tools and equipment; safety precautions must be followed including use of safety equipment; a job in this category may require walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, crouching, climbing ladders, and ability to frequently lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.  Eligibility for position is based on passing the required pre-placement exam.
