Middle College Coordinator

SUMMARY

Support teachers as they work to implement balanced literacy instruction and a tiered system of instructional support. Help develop, articulate and implement an aligned system of standards, instruction, intervention and assessment.  Develop, coordinate and provide professional learning and related services both in person and online. 

The Middle College Coordinator will facilitate the dual enrollment programs where high school scholars will have the chance to earn college credits concurrently with their high school diploma. The coordinator will manage student enrollment, academic advising, and ensure students are meeting college requirements while also fulfilling their high school graduation requirements.
Though this position is funded by NAZ, the funding is channeled into MPS and the position is an MPS contract for a North High School position.
Anticipated outcome for Year One of Implementation – coordinator collaborates with North, CTE, and
Advanced Academics to audit, calculate, and assess all current and future post-secondary equivalent opportunities for North High students. Observe and evaluate the successful Middle College Program at Bloomington Jefferson HS (with Normandale College). Identify best possible partnering college options. Build partnership. By Spring of Year One, have possible enrollment options available for Fall registration. Year Two – enrolled students experience menu of options that allow for on site and off site concurrent
enrollment. Year Three – fully enrolled Middle College students’ schedules and transcripts should reflect the new possibility of being able to graduate North HS with a HS Diploma and an Associate’s Degree.This position is a program development position with leadership capacity. This TOSA position will encompass
additional roles

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Enrollment and Advising
The coordinator assists students with enrolling in college courses, provides guidance on course
selection, and helps them navigate the college application process.
• Academic Support
They ensure students are meeting academic standards in both their high school and college coursework,
including providing support for tutoring, testing, and other academic resources.
• Communication and Coordination
The coordinator acts as a liaison between the high school, college, and students, ensuring smooth
communication and coordination of programs and resources.
• Program Management
They may be involved in developing and implementing middle college programs, including curriculum
development, student recruitment, and program evaluation.
• Financial Aid and Scholarships
They may also help students navigate financial aid and scholarship opportunities for both high school
and college.

QUALIFICATIONS

 Education/Experience:

  • Minnesota teaching license from the Minneosta Department of Education
  • Experience with curriculum development, design and delivery
  • Experience with a tiered system of support in literacy
  • Experience leading, planning and coordinating professional development
  • Experience with developing a comprehensive assessment system

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of research-based trends in literacy education and assessment and best practices in literacy.
  • In depth knowledge of deep content and pedagogy for effective literacy instruction.
  • Ability to provide professional development on balanced literacy and response to intervention in literacy.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and creatively with colleagues.
  • A passion for student achievement, the conviction that all students will learn, and a drive to close achievement gaps between student groups.
  • Demonstrated effective leadership and coaching skills.
  • Knowledge of and an ability to utilize a variety of current technological tools for communication, planning, documentation, and professional development

 

Physical demands of the position:

  • Able to lift and transport containers weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • Can work extended hours
  • Able to travel between building sites
