FUNCTION: This position is to develop, implement, and support a comprehensive 9-12 STEM program.  

 

As part of the Comprehensive District Design, Heritage Academy high school will have a STEM focus beginning in 2021-2022. A STEM-centric culture at Heritage will provide all students access to rigorous, culturally sustaining, standards aligned STEM coursework. Duties include supporting STEM curriculum developement, coaching for STEM integration and equity, and creating a plan for technology integration.  

This position will also collaborate with MPS district STEM leadership and developing and strengthening STEM focused community partnerships. This position will include  

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with all stakeholders towards creating a equitable STEM-centric culture and enacting Heritage’s mission and vision 

  • Provide coaching support to teachers in STEM integration including project-based learning

  • Provide model/demonstration teaching with specific intervention strategies in regards to Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)

  • Facilitate STEM professional development for teachers

  • Develop and host meetings with broad representation from the school community (including parents and student voice), community industry and non-profit partners to help co-construct a STEM plan.

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with district and community stakeholders

  • Work with site leadership on student and staff recruitment strategies, communications, events, and school tours.

  • Coordinate and supervise community partnerships that enrich curricular experience of students during the school day (i.e. volunteers, college interns, industry partners, guest speakers, community experts, field trips)

  • Participate in the development, planning and coordination of school and community-wide events, programs, and celebrations.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minnesota Teaching License, preferably in science, technology and/or mathematics

  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill coaching adult learners.

  • Extensive knowledge of curriculum design and planning, including project based learning

  • Experience with content integration of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.

  • Experience in developing and teaching Project Based Learning curriculum. 

  • Experience leading standards aligned curriculum and assessment development with teachers. 

  • Experience developing STEM programming

  • Experience in working with diverse student groups and a record of success with diverse community groups is required.

  • Willingness to grow in equity journey and strong focus working to ensure school is culturally sustaining for students

  • Ability to work effectively and in collaboration with school staff.

  • Knowledge of a variety of instructional strategies.

  • Understanding of facilities use, schedules and functions.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to work effectively, creatively and collaboratively with principals, teachers, and students.

  • Collaborate with other MPS Academic Departments to implement high quality STEM programming 

 

 

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • A valid Minnesota teaching license in Secondary education
