Parent Educators (PEs) in Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) are responsible for creating learning opportunities and environments where students, families, staff and community feel and experience a sense of belonging, safety, wellness, and respect. PEs design and implement lesson plans based on the Parent Education Core Curriculum Framework and culturally relevant best practices in parent education.  PEs facilitate learning that is positive, respectful and inclusive across learning environments including but not limited to early childhood classrooms, pre-k classrooms, homes, hospitals, and clinics.


Responsible to:

  • Valid MN Parent Educator teaching license required. Dual License – Early Childhood/Parent Education preferred
  • Fluent bilingual Spanish/English
  • Demonstrated knowledge of anti-racist teaching
  • Demonstrated unwavering commitment to anti-racist teaching
  • Experience in urban, multicultural education 
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, cultural differences and students learning English as a second language
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, the process of acculturation to American society
  • 3 years of instructional experience working with African American students and families
  • 3 years teaching experience with parents of infants, toddlers and preschoolers
  • Knowledge and understanding of the developmental needs of parents and children
  • Proven technological teaching capacity
  • Demonstrated continued professional development through course work, research, peer collaboration and/or job-embedded staff development
  • Working knowledge of Parent Education Core Curriculum Framework, adult learning, current research on best practices and strategies, as well as students’ learning styles and needs
  • Experience in home visiting curriculum and programming


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate student to student and student to teacher relationships based on established group learning norms within a safe, equitable, and engaging learning environment.
  • Design and implement culturally relevant, differentiated instruction based on Focused Instruction Curriculum Guides and Minnesota Parent Education Core Curriculum Framework.
  • Provide parenting education across multiple environments: homes, elementary schools, early learning centers and more.
  • Team-teach with early childhood teachers.
  • Following the principles of adult learning, design and facilitate student self-assessment of learning.
  • Engage in reflective practice of instructional effectiveness via design and implementation of formative assessment opportunities within lessons.
  • Participate as a data-driven team member with parent educators, early childhood teachers, and 
  • Instructional coaches to engage in professional development, problem solving, and innovative on going
  • program improvement.
  • Travel required between sites.
  • Evening and Saturday work required.


The candidate selected for this role will be required to provide a passing proficient score on the ACTFL language assessment through . The initial testing fee range from $70 -$140 payable by the candidate.




Final candidates may be invited to interview with a committee.  Final appointment to this position will be contingent upon passing a criminal background check.
