Summary of Position:

 

Collaboratively provide leadership to all aspects of the district’s College Credit Programming (International Baccalaureate (IB DP, IB CP) Advanced Placement (AP) Concurrent/Dual Enrollment, College in the Schools (CIS) and Post-Secondary Education Opportunities (PSEO)).  

 

This position will be responsible to:

  • Develop, coordinate and deliver professional development and related services to 9-12 teachers, principals, coordinators and other staff. 

  • Provide oversight, training and support for site based College Credit Programming and IB CP coordinators. 

  • In collaboration with other district coordinators and leaders, develop and implement plans to increase enrollment in College Credit programming, specifically increasing enrollment of students of color.  

  • Build capacity with school leadership teams and teachers to ensure academic growth for all students. 

  

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Experience

  • Minnesota Teaching License (5-12 or 7-12 subject specific)

  • Advanced degree or certificate in Curriculum preferred

  • Experience leading or teaching in an IB program, AP Program or other College Credit Programming

  • Experience in and knowledge of equity principles and cultural competencies of academic standards and the district’s mission, goals, programs, and curriculum to support teachers and sites 

  • At least five years experience of effective instruction teaching a wide range of students from diverse backgrounds in an urban setting.

  • Experience with curriculum development, analysis and delivery using effective formative assessment strategies in advanced coursework.

  • Experience leading effective professional development that changes teacher practice and increases student learning outcomes.

  • Demonstrated effective leadership and coaching skills in working with adults

  • Experience managing budgets and contracts with outside partners

  • A demonstrated conviction that all students can and will achieve at high levels and that all students  meet or exceed their expected continuous academic growth.

  • Strong knowledge of College Credit programming, current educational research, instructional strategies and differentiation of curriculum and instruction

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to work with a wide range of constituents including students, teachers, administrators, post secondary institutions and community members

  • Ability to facilitate a variety of professional development experiences for staff using exemplary pedagogy

  • Ability to work creatively and collaboratively with teams

  • Capacity to exhibit systems thinking and manage projects of widely varying complexity

 

Position Functions, Duties, Responsibilities: 

  • Be a strong advocate for equity for all students, specifically BIPOC students.  Must be able to lead this work to create change in both curriculum and perspective

  • Support site coordinators and their administrators to develop yearly site College Credit Programming plans.  Create systems of accountability for site goals and plans around programming

  • Collaborate with site and district leaders to implement, sustain and improve College Credit Programs within MPS

  • Other duties as assigned


 

Collaboration/Community Outreach

  • Create/maintain partnerships with post secondary institutions

  • Act as point of contact for all 9-12 advanced academic programs including IB MYP, DP and CP programmes, AP College Board, UMN, MCTC, MNSCU, PSEO, MNCEP

  • Oversee all budgets, compliance, and contracts with post secondary and 9-12 advanced programs

  • Represent and act as voice for MPS in the community including attending post secondary association meetings, community outreach meetings, and legislative sessions regarding funding for advanced programming

 

Curriculum Design and Delivery

  • Collaborate with all content areas to ensure effective curriculum, instruction and assessment within all college credit programming  options.

  • Coach and collaborate with site  coordinators to improve curriculum and instruction centered on equity in college credit courses

  • Screen and select necessary curriculum materials and resources to ensure learner outcomes are met

  • Support social emotional (SEL)  needs of high ability learners through appropriate curriculum, counseling, support from school and district staff.

 

Professional Development

  • Collaboratively design and lead professional development for teachers, specialists and building leaders in relevant programming/strategies including qualitatively differentiated curriculum and instruction, assessment,, and social-emotional support.

  • Facilitate communication, training and professional development for district staff, site admin, coordinators and teachers

  • Engage in PD centered on issues of race regarding the opportunity and achievement gap between and among groups of students

  • Represent MPS at local, state and national IB/AP/CIS/CE/PSEO conferences and meetings.
