Position Overview:
In 2025 the Minneapolis Public Schools and Metro State University will launch a groundbreaking Teacher Apprenticeship Program for MPS Education Support Professionals! The MPS/Metro Teacher Apprenticeship Program is an on the job licensure program that allows teacher apprentices to simultaneously earn a Bachelor’s degree and teaching license in PK-6 Elementary education. Apprentices will work in a Journey Teacher’s classroom for four days a week and will take coursework through Metro State one day of the week, all while continuing to earn an income as a Teacher Apprentice.
We are seeking Apprentice Teachers who are enthusiastic about making a significant impact in the lives of students through innovative and inclusive educational practices. Ideal candidates will bring a solid foundation in equity and technology, ensuring high levels of learning for all students. We highly value bilingual skills, to better serve our diverse student population. Consistent and reliable attendance, a passion for learning, and the ability to develop strong relationships with colleagues, families, and students are essential for success in this role.
Qualifications:
1) Be employed as an ESP with MPS or a defined community partner.
2) Be admitted to Metro State University majoring in Urban Elementary Ed.
3) Have a minimum of 40 credits, including the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum or equivalent.
4) Have a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
5) Be seeking an initial teaching license and Bachelor’s degree.
Individual circumstances may be taken into consideration by the selection committee.
Responsibilities:

Actively engage in the apprenticeship program in ways that meet expectations of on-the-job learning at MPS and related instruction during the work day with Metro State University.

Meet the Standards of Effective Practice through a variety of assessments.

Perform duties within scope of authority and meet the professional obligations outlined in the MPS handbook.

Use a variety of reflection techniques to improve teaching practices.

Meet expectations of related instruction explained by faculty and program materials from Metro State University.
