This position is Bilingual Spanish / Englich

 

Function:

The Early Childhood Family Education School Success Program Assistant ECFE-SSPA) will collaborate with parents and community partners to provide parent education in infant and child development, temperament, emotional learning, and behavior, and getting prepared for kindergarten.  The ECFE-SSPA will work with families and partners with children ages prenatal-eight across multiple environments including but not limited to homes, hospitals, clinics, childcare centers and schools.

 

Responsible to:

Director of Early Childhood Education

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Complete home visits, hospital visits, clinic visits, and school visits to coordinate and provide comprehensive parent education opportunities and materials to support school readiness and parent development.

Recruit families and children to enroll in MPS Early Childhood Education programming including Family Education, Screening, Preschool and Teen Parenting Services.

 

Create and maintain collaborative relationships with Early Childhood partners within the greater community.

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum bachelors degree in family studies, child development, social work, or early childhood education or related field
  • Fluent in English and Spanish
  • Knowledge and demonstrated skill in cultural sensitivity and working in culturally diverse urban settings
  • Ability to forge and maintain effective relationships with families, agencies, other employees and the general public
  • Demonstrated skill in working in cross-disciplinary and multicultural team and systems
  • Demonstrated organizational skills
  • Knowledge of early childhood and family resources in the Minneapolis area
  • Knowledge of early childhood and elementary public education systems
  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills
  • High level of technical computer skills with knowledge of Excel, and word processing programs
  • Experience working with parents and children
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Service, Psychology, or a related field

AND 

3 years of demonstrated educational support experience in an urban educational environment, including group facilitation and conflict resolution or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.

 

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS A valid Minnesota State Driver’s License may be required.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT Work is performed in a classroom and a general office environment, with moderate physical requirements; requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. Jobs in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree, long periods of working with computers, and working with children.
