**** Adult Education is accepting applications to fill for the 2026-2027 School Year, School Success Program Assistant (Volunteer and Development Coordinator).

 

Reports to: This position reports directly to LSS Supervisor.

 

Hours/Location: Flexible work schedule to serve multiple programs at different sites and time (including some evenings and Saturday’s as needed). At times may be required to work outside normal business hours and work extended hours to accomplish the requirements of the position.

 

Summary: Under general supervision, assists MPS Adult Education program and its Learner Support Services (LSS) office with all volunteer coordination, as well as grant writing, development and marketing efforts. Works with the community and staff to promote life-long learning for all residents. Supports volunteer placement and tracking within the program. Research and develop grant and funding opportunities.

  1. Development and Grant Writing
    • Researches and identifies grant and funding opportunities from federal, state, local, and private sources that align with Adult Education program needs
    • Writes, edits, and submits grant proposals, including narratives, budgets, and supporting documents, in collaboration with program leadership
    • Tracks grant deadlines, reporting requirements, and award status, and helps prepare progress and outcome reports for funders
    • Builds relationships with community partners, donors, and funders to expand support for Adult Education program
    • Gathers program and learner data to support funding requests, and helps evaluate the impact of funded initiatives
  2. Marketing and Web Information
    • With help from Community Ed marketing staff, develops, orders and distributes marketing materials as needed
    • Supports with marketing Adult Education programming on social-media outlets
    • Supports with maintaining web-content on department website
  3. Volunteer Supports
    • Recruits and onboards new volunteers to assist in Adult Ed classrooms or support student needs
    • Works with teachers and admin to place new or existing volunteers
    • Supports with running volunteer reports and cleaning data (as needed)
    • Analyzes and develops systems of operation to support program efficiency
    • Assists AE program manager with data and reporting systems; volunteer program evaluation, customer service and compliance with training, quality and safety standards

 

  1. Administrative Support
    • Provides general office and administrative support to Adult Education program.
    • Provides computer and networking support to students and staff as needed.
    • Assists in administrative functions, including registration, testing, and maintaining records.
    • Assists with a variety of Adult Education programs, student services, community services, special assignments, and special events.
    • Onboard new LSS staff on information systems pertinent to performing their duties
    • Communicates with learners, and staff to convey pertinent information while maintaining confidentiality of personal information.
    • Comfortable using technology to organize and deliver school programs and services.
    • Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records and MPS information.
  2. Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basis

 

Qualifications:

Required qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Service, Psychology, or a related field; AND three (3) years of demonstrated educational support experience in an urban educational environment, including group facilitation and conflict resolution; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.
  • Previous experience researching, writing, or managing grants
  • Knowledge of web marketing best practices
  • Previous experience working with volunteers, including training and orienting volunteers
  • Experience working with information systems
  • Principles of record keeping and records management.
  • Successful experience, working with adults in an education setting

 

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience working with diverse communities and people
  • Ability to effectively address issues related to learner persistence and overcoming barriers
  • Experience in Adult Basic Education programming
  • Experienced and comfortable with advising adult learners
  • Familiarity with the Adult Education student management system
