Minneapolis Community Education- AQUATICS - TEMPORARY POSITION

Job Title:   Lifeguard

 

Aquatics Program Goal:

The goal of the Minneapolis Public Schools Community Education Aquatics Program is to provide quality educational and recreational aquatic experiences for a wide range of ages, abilities, and interests. The Aquatics Program philosophy is to promote a safety conscious attitude and foster lifelong enjoyment of aquatic activities. 

 

Description:

Maintain a safe environment for all water activities while keeping a positive rapport with patrons.

 

 Required Qualification:

  •  Minimum age of 18 years
  • Must pass background check 
  •  Current or become certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED within 40 days of employment (Cost will be covered) 
  • Pay rate: $20-25 per hour (depending on experience) 
  •  Ability to concentrate for long periods of time and maintain constant patron surveillance
  •  Ability to recognize and respond effectively in emergencies
  •  Ability to communicate professionally with people of all ages
  •  Ability to pass a pre-employment test of lifeguarding skills and knowledge
  • Ability to travel to multiple sites with transportation 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  •  Current certification in Lifeguarding /First Aid/ CPR/ AED/ Water Safety Instructor

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Hours may vary from 4-8 hours per day
  • Travels to 3-4 sites during the weekdays, work some evening hours during the week and day weekend hours during swim sessions
  •  Facilitate swim programs; classes and building needs.

 Fulfill Lifeguard duties and responsibilities:

o   Maintain constant surveillance of pool and pool area

o   Know and understand emergency procedures and be able to immediately respond to emergency situations

o   Know and administer First Aid when necessary

o   Know, understand, and enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules, and regulations

o   Complete records and reports

o   Report to duty and be ready to work 10 minutes prior to the beginning of your shift

o   Keep the facility clean, including pool, pool area,, and locker rooms

o   Participate in regular in-service training sessions

o   Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to hear noises and distress signals
  • Ability to observe all areas of the pool and pool area with clear vision
  • Ability to perform all needed rescues and survival skills ( including but not limited to swimming quickly, swimming while supporting adult body weight, exiting the pool without the use of a ladder or stairs, removing adult body weight from the pool, submerging to the greatest depth of the pool)
  •  Ability to communicate verbally and loudly across distances.
