SUMMARY
Under general supervision, maintains an inventory of parts and supplies used for the maintenance and repair of the MPS vehicle fleet; purchases and accounts for parts, supplies, equipment and tools, and maintains inventory records.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:


 Orders vehicle and equipment parts as requested; researches vendors, acquires price quotes, determines most cost-effective suppliers, issues purchase orders, and purchases final product.
 Works independently and makes appropriate decisions based on experience; performs work within scope of authority and training, and in compliance with MPS policies and quality standards.
 Receives materials and supplies for stock inventory, reconciles packing list with purchase order, reviews documents for compliance with policy, and enters data into computer system; receives and processes parts and materials in accordance with department policies and procedures.
 Delivers parts to mechanics; assists mechanics with repair work as requested.
 Processes invoices, verifies price and quantity of goods received, follows up with vendors as required.
 Checks documents for validity and accuracy of information; performs mathematical calculations; records, files and distributes related paperwork and documents.
 Processes inventory and bookkeeping transactions in compliance with all applicable rules, regulations and procedures; posts computer inventory entries, and reviews and validates data.
 Coordinates with vendors for outsourced vehicle repairs; tracks repairs until completed and returned.
 Conducts inventory of parts and stock room supplies, and reconciles actual inventory to inventory records; identifies and clears/returns obsolete parts; recycles and reuses materials wherever possible; evaluates usage trends in parts and supplies, and recommends adjustments in inventory levels.
 Updates records for vehicle repair orders and service files.
 Assists with maintenance of shop facility, cleans work areas, disposes of lubricants and chemicals in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures, and cleans up spills according to procedures.
 Follows all safety rules and regulations, and closely follows verbal and written instructions; reports safety hazards, equipment problems, security issues, and emergencies.
 Operates a variety of trucks, equipment, and tools in accordance with safety regulations and procedures.
 Responds to emergencies and completes work activities as directed.
 Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, clients, visitors, and MPS staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment
 Enthusiastically promotes the Superintendent’s goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures.
 Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records and MPS information.
 Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basis
 At times may be required to work outside normal business hours and work extended hours to accomplish requirements of the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines
High School Diploma or GED equivalent, AND two (2) years of experience in inventory management of vehicle parts and equipment; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources. Technical training in vehicle mechanics or an Associate’s degree is preferred.


Knowledge of:
 Principles of a vehicle fleet preventive maintenance and repair program.
 Purchasing and inventory control practices and procedures.
 Principles of accounting, record keeping, and records management.
 Federal and state safety rules and regulations, occupational hazards, safety precautions in a shop environment, and drug and alcohol testing guidelines for CDL.
 City geography, traffic patterns, streets, landmarks, and facility locations.
 Proper use and storage of hazardous chemicals used in the workplace.
 Occupational hazards and safety precautions.
 Environmentally responsible and resource-efficient maintenance techniques.

Skill in:
 Maintaining accurate purchasing and technical records.
 Reading and understanding technical automotive diagrams and parts manuals.
 Entering numerical and technical information into a computer system with speed and accuracy.
 Performing mathematical calculations with skill and accuracy.
 Operating a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized software.
 Using proper safety precautions and identifying problems and emergencies.
 Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers and clients.
 Following and maintaining safety standards.
 Following verbal and written instructions.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
A valid Minnesota State Commercial Driver’s License is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed indoors and outdoors in repair and maintenance facilities; requires moderate physical demands; may be exposed to safety hazards and dangerous tools and equipment; safety precautions must be followed, including use of safety equipment; a job in this category may require walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, crouching, climbing ladders, and the ability to lift and move items weighing up to 70 pounds.
