SUMMARY

The Data Systems and Reporting Analyst supports district decision-making by developing, maintaining, and delivering accurate and timely student-level data, reports, and visualizations that address both operational and instructional needs. Working collaboratively with schools, district departments, and technology staff, this role ensures that data systems and reporting tools provide reliable information to guide school and district improvement efforts. Emphasizing data accuracy, efficient processes, and clear visualization, the specialist enables informed decision-making across the organization.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

  • Fulfills student-level and operational data requests from schools, departments, and district leadership.
  • Develops, maintains, and improves recurring and ad hoc reports using district data systems.
  • Collaborates with district principals, teachers, and leadership to review, analyze, and respond to data related to enrollment, attendance, behavior, course participation, demographics, and other organizational metrics.
  • Supports preparation and validation of data used in state and national required reporting processes, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timely delivery.
  • Ensures data accuracy and consistency across reporting systems and supports standardization of reporting definitions and processes.
  • Translates reporting needs into clear data requirements and develops efficient reporting solutions.
  • Develops and maintains data visualizations, dashboards, and reporting tools using Tableau or similar platforms.
  • Designs data delivery processes that improve access to timely and accurate information for schools and district departments.
  • Develops and maintains longitudinal and cohort datasets supporting organizational and operational reporting needs.
  • Works to automate or improve efficiency of existing reports and data processes while maintaining data integrity.
  • Mines data from multiple information systems using a diverse set of tools and methods.
  • Collaborates with IT to maintain and improve tools related to student, family, and staff data within the Student Information System (SIS).
  • Supports reporting and data processes related to census information, grading standards, report cards, transcripts, courses, scheduling, and enrollment.
  • Assists in generating reports and managing student-related data needs within the SIS and related systems.
  • Documents reporting processes and supports appropriate user access and data usage practices.
    Works with district leadership and departments to support data-informed decision-making processes.
  • Participates in collaborative work groups that review data related to programs, processes, and systems and supports recommendations for improvement.
  • Provides technical support for data interpretation while partnering with REA staff for assessment or evaluation work.
  • Supports survey data collection and reporting as needed in collaboration with REA team members.
  • Manages multiple reporting and data system projects simultaneously, tracking progress and coordinating stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of data products.
  • Supports continuous improvement of reporting processes and data infrastructure.
  • Promotes the Superintendent’s goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures.
  • Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records and MPS information.
  • Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basis

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines

Bachelor’s degree in data analytics, information systems, statistics, education, or a related field; AND seven (7) years of professional experience in data analysis, reporting, or data systems management, including demonstrated experience using SQL or another database query language, developing dashboards or visualizations using Tableau, Power BI, or similar tools, working with K–12 student information systems and large relational datasets, automating reporting processes, and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; OR Master’s degree in data analytics, information systems, statistics, education, or a related field; AND five (5) years of professional experience in data analysis, reporting, or data systems management, including demonstrated experience using SQL or another database query language, developing dashboards or visualizations using Tableau, Power BI, or similar tools, working with K–12 student information systems and large relational datasets, automating reporting processes, and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience as determined by Human Resources.

 

Knowledge of:
  • Knowledge of data systems, relational databases, and reporting processes.
  • Understanding of K–12 student data structures and operational reporting needs.
  • Knowledge of student data privacy requirements and ethical data use.
  • Familiarity with data visualization best practices.

 

Skill in:

  • Strong SQL or database querying skills.
  • Strong data visualization and dashboard development skills.
  • Skill in organizing and managing large datasets.
  • Skill in translating data needs into clear and usable reporting tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple requests and competing priorities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with technical staff, school leaders, and district departments.
  • Ability to ensure accuracy and consistency in reporting across systems.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

A valid Minnesota State Driver’s License may be required.

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in a standard office environment which requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. A job in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree or may involve sitting most of the time with long periods of computer work and heavy phone usage.
