Job Type: 1 Contracted Consultant

Time Commitment:  Part-Time (total anticipated hours range from an average of approximately 20-25 hours per week and could increase if more grant funds are secured)

Duration of Project:  Contracted work is granted funded through June 2025; length of service and opportunities to expand beyond this time are dependent upon effectiveness of performance and more grant funds being secured.

Pay:  up to $45,000 (stipend with no insurance benefits)

Location: Minneapolis, MN with significant onsite engagement in addition to remote, online engagement

Summary of Position:  This position(s) will participate in the collaborative development of successful new program proposals to the Department of Labor and Industry (DLI) and the Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB) for approval to launch an innovative registered apprenticeship program for earning bachelor’s degrees and PreK-Grade 6 teaching licensure. The Coordinator will also co-lead planning for the initial implementation of the apprenticeship program to address the shortage of effective teachers who reflect the diversity of students in MPS and who implement culturally responsive pedagogical practices for equitable student learning outcomes.

Reports To:   Dean of the School of Urban Education at Metro State University, and the Director of Talent Development & Management, Minneapolis Public Schools

Vision:   The MPS-Metro State Apprenticeship Program Coordinator will hold a pivotal role in the development and implementation of the innovative PreK- 6th Apprenticeship Program that is expected to be the first DLI-approved registered apprenticeship program in Minnesota for elementary education teaching licensure.  As coordinator of a collaborative initiative between Minneapolis Public Schools and Metro State University’s School of Urban Education, this position is ideal for an experienced educator/program developer/scholar with teaching experiences in the PreK-6 field, and/or who has held positions such as district coordinator, TOSA, school administrator, consultant, or adjunct faculty as such roles would have built skills and networks that are multi-faceted. They will have the demonstrated ability to identify and achieve program-level outcomes by deadlines. The successful candidate will also demonstrate abilities that reflect cross-institutional connections or collaborative skills, the ability to tap into resources within the district, state and other relevant sources, and be current in knowing urban pedagogical needs and effective approaches within MPS classrooms. They will demonstrate an understanding of diverse perspectives and approach interactions with an open mind, recognizing that quietness does not necessarily imply agreement. They will be reflective about how communication styles can promote inclusion or exclusion, and exhibit strong cross-cultural communication skills. Additionally, the ideal and successful candidate will bring a wealth of experience in program development and coordination, and will employ technology skills related to learning management systems, basic platforms used in MPS, and others to design and implement the program.

 

Key Responsibilities:  Phase I—Program Development

 

1. Program Development to Prepare for Launch when Program is Approved

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop the structures and supports of the apprenticeship program;

  • Coordinate efforts to develop online, print and social media content for apprenticeship recruitment and program promotion;

  • Collaborate to recruit MPS staff to participate in the Apprenticeship Program;

  • Collaborate with Metro State personnel to assist Apprenticeship Program applicants get admitted to Metro State;

  • Collaborate to secure more grant funding for the implementation and maintenance of the program when launched;

  • Developing a network of other resources that will support apprenticeship program development and apprentices (e.g., specific experts, professional growth models, time management models, accountability and check-points models).

  • Work on team to develop proposals for new program approval by MN Department of Labor and Industry (DLI) and the Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB).

2. Collaboration, Communication Effectiveness and Skills that Promote Inclusivity and Feedback

  • Collaborate in face-to-face/in-person and virtual MPS-Metro team meetings weekly;

  • Manage calendar and schedule routine meetings for MPS-Metro team and stakeholders;

  • Demonstrate promoting, modeling and fostering an environment of inclusivity and strategic engagement that nurtures understanding across various communication styles and skills, as well as, recognizing and valuing different viewpoints and contributions;

  • Engage in teams in ways that reflect feedback focused on the primary objective/s and timelines, as well as, set outcomes;

  • Utilize technology effectively to manage program components and communicate with stakeholders;

  • Give monthly updates to Metro State faculty and staff as well as stakeholders within MPS and the broader community.

3. Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • This role involves a mix of office work, in-person meetings, field visits and virtual meetings.

 

 

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years teaching experience preK-Grade 6

  • Experience developing and implementing new programs

  • Proven ability to coordinate complex projects and work collaboratively with diverse groups

  • Demonstrated competency with inter-institutional, inter-cultural and interpersonal communications

  • Strong organizational and leadership skills, including the ability to prioritize, monitor, communicate and organize competing demands and time sensitive components of this partnership

  • Proficient in using technology for program management and communication in a timely manner, as well as technology skills tied to various platforms and applications that lead to or support strong communication, report delivery, and timely completion of tasks

  • Must be in a professional career status that allows for the required time and time management of this program

  • Ability to travel frequently within Minneapolis for onsite visits and meetings, and other partner locations

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher

  • Experience working in Minneapolis Public Schools

  • Has or has held MN elementary education K-6 teaching license

  • Experience developing and/or coordinating programs related to teacher education/preparation

  • Experience writing standards-based curriculum and assessments for professionals

  • Experience working in K-12/Higher Ed partnerships
