This position is a candidate pool and not a specific position at a school or department. This position may require an initial screening interview before being placed into the Candidate Pool. There may not be an available position(s) at the time of application but positions can become available at any time.

 

The candidate pool is used to refer qualified applicants to the site/department with the open position.  Human Resources will process your application, and once approved, your name will be sent to the Plant Operations Department with available positions.

There are multiple positions throughout the MPS District.  The start and end times vary based on operational needs. 

**Please note that the Plant Operations Dept. schedules its interviews.  Be sure to ask the hiring manager about the locations available along with the start and end times.    

 

Our shifts are assigned accordingly:

  • AM Shift typically starts as early as 5 AM - 1:30 PM or 5:30 AM - 2 PM. 
  • Mid-Day Shifts can start as early as 11 AM - 7:30 PM. 
  • PM Shift typically starts as early as 12 - 8:30 PM or at the latest 1:30 - 10 PM.

SUMMARY

Under general supervision, assists with cleaning and maintenance for inside and outside of MPS buildings.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

  • Maintain building interior by washing, dusting, and cleaning mirrors and fixtures; washing windows, counters, and walls; sweeping, vacuuming, scrubbing, and waxing floors; cleaning and supplying lavatories; replacing light bulbs.
  • Maintain building exterior by removing litter, mowing, maintaining shrubbery, edging and trimming lawns; removing snow and ice from walkways and steps.
  • Cleans and maintains grounds, including seasonal lawn care and snow removal.
  • Controls work site to assure that safety rules and regulations are adhered to and that the work zone and all equipment are in safe operating condition.
  • Assist in lifting and moving furniture, setting up portable staging, arranging classroom furnishings, and other materials
  • Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed; cleans up spills and unsafe conditions in a timely manner and according to procedures.
  • Follows manufacturer’s directions for use and dilution of all chemicals and cleaning products.
  • Recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents, and injuries; reports security issues and illegal activities.
  • Provides customer service as needed, responds to requests, and assists co-workers, students, and visitors.
  • Attend seminars and training sessions as provided by management.
  • Opens and closes facilities and sets security systems; responds to emergency situations including callbacks for break-ins and mechanical problems; assists with safety drills and annual cleaning duties.
  • Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, clients, visitors, and MPS staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment
  • Enthusiastically promotes the Superintendent’s goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures.
  • Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records, and MPS information.
  • Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basis
  • At times may be required to work outside normal business hours and work extended hours to accomplish the requirements of the position.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines

High School Diploma or GED equivalent; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience as determined by Human Resources.

A Medical Examination: Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician.

 

Knowledge of:

  • Materials and equipment used in building and grounds maintenance.
  • Basic techniques and procedures used in the cleaning and maintenance of public buildings.
  • Federal and state safety rules and regulations.
  • Occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Techniques for use and storage of chemicals, including OSHA Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for hazardous chemicals used in the workplace.

 

Skill in:

  • Operating and maintaining tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
  • Following and maintaining safety standards.
  • Following verbal and written instructions.

 

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

A valid Minnesota State Driver’s License may be required.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed indoors and outdoors at MPS facilities; requires constant physical efforts; may be exposed to safety hazards and dangerous tools and equipment; safety precautions must be followed including the use of safety equipment; a job in this category may require walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, crouching, climbing ladders, and ability to frequently lift and move items weighing up to 60 pounds.
