**Please note that the Culinary & Wellness Services Dept. schedules its interviews.  The work schedule is 6 AM - 2:30 PM.  There are 4 full-time positions.** 

 

SUMMARY

Under general supervision, prepares, dispenses, and packages ready-to-eat fresh food; washes and sanitizes equipment as well as workspace areas.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

  • Assists with the production of ready-to-eat foods, including, but not limited to: vegetable washing and peeling, sous vide packaging, and portioning of ingredients.
  • Operates equipment such as scales, label makers, and pallet jacks, to support packaging of food.
  • Participates in set-up and tear-down of packaging equipment, including cleaning and sanitizing.  
  • Performs work within the scope of authority and training, and in compliance with MPS policies and quality standards; duties will vary according to job assignment.
  • Cleans and maintains orderly, safe, and sanitary conditions in culinary and wellness services facility.
  • Supports other areas of central production kitchen activity during heavy demand, including vended meal distribution.
  • Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, clients, visitors, and MPS staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment 
  • Enthusiastically promotes the Superintendent’s goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures.
  • Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records, and MPS information.
  • Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basis
  • At times may be required to work outside normal business hours and work extended hours to accomplish the requirements of the position.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines

High School Diploma or GED equivalent; some food handling experience is preferred.

 

Knowledge of:

  • Safety and sanitation practices for food preparation, distribution, and storage.
  • Personal sanitation and hygiene regulations.
  • Principles of record keeping and records management.

 

Skill in:

  • Packaging food while following health code and safety guidelines.
  • Following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers and clients.

 

 

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

A valid Minnesota State Driver’s License may be required.   

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in a commercial food service and kitchen work environment; moderate physical requirements, with risk of burns and cuts; frequent lifting, carrying, and moving up to 50-pound containers of food preparation materials and equipment; may require working in a walk-in freezer.  Eligibility for the position is based on passing the required pre-placement exam.
