SUMMARY

Under general supervision, assists program coordinators with daily operations and management of programs, and special events. Work with the community and staff to promote lifelong learning for all residents. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
 

  • Assists students and site coordinators in a variety of programs including evening adult enrichment, teen driver’s education and lifelong learning 55+. 
  • Assists CE teachers and staff providing daily program operations; evaluates and analyzes program issues, and recommends and implements solutions; assists teachers with managing classroom materials.
  • Assists with a variety of Community Education programs, special assignments, and special events. Is a willing and creative collaborator on class and event ideas. 
  • Attends program area and regional team meetings to learn from and contribute to larger Community Education program efforts. 
  • Assists in administrative functions, including budgets, revenue and expenses, payroll, and financial reports; requisitions supplies and equipment; coordinates ongoing inventories, and maintains records.
  • Assists and manages data and reporting systems; program teacher and student evaluations, contracts,  customer services and compliance with quality and safety standards
  • Promotes lifelong learning and participation in community programs by developing promotional media, flyers, email marketing, and announcements; participates in community outreach programs and promotes MPS Community Education Programs.
  • Communicates with community members, parents, students and staff to convey pertinent information while maintaining confidentiality of personal information.
  • Comfortable using technology to organize and deliver community programs and services.
  • Provides general office and administrative support for assigned programs.
  • Provides great customer service to community members, school staff, students’, parents and or guardians, answers questions, and explains program to community.  Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, clients, visitors, and MPS staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment. 
  • Position works 2 evenings per week during weeks program is running. The main point of contact for during adult evening programs two nights per week until 9pm (Tuesday and Wednesdays); troubleshoots issues, coordinates the work of aides, and gives support to classes and instructors while maintaining a safe and enriching program environment.

Sample schedule during programming* (fall winter, and spring sessions, about 24 weeks during the school year):

  • Mondays: 12-4pm (flexible)
  • Tuesdays: 3-9pm (set)
  • Wednesdays: 3-9pm (set)
  • Thurs OR Fri: 12-4pm (flexible)

*Schedule is flexible during non-program weeks. Final schedule can be arranged in partnership with coordinator with approval of supervisor, based on availability and program needs. 

 

 

 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

One of the following:

  • Associate degree or higher in Education or closely related area
  • Completed 90 quarter or 60 semester college credits from an accredited institution
  • A passing score of 460 (or higher) on the ParaPro Assessment AND either a high school diploma or a GED certificate (For more information on the ParaPro Assessment, contact Educational Testing Service at 1-800-772-9476 or www.ets.org/parapro)

AND

Two (2) years of professional experience working with children.

Skill in:

  • Understanding and applying Community Education program standards and procedures, applicable Federal and state rules and regulations, and MPS policies and procedures.
  • Using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines.
  • Administering educational and school support programs.
  • Identifying problems and opportunities, and developing solutions.
  • Planning, organizing, and coordinating the work of instructors and aides.
  • Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.
  • Providing prompt and courteous customer service.
  • Cross-cultural competency and conflict resolution.

 

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
A valid Minnesota State Driver’s License may be required. First Aid, CPR, and AED training is required within one year of hire. Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training may be required within one year of hire, based on assignment.
